Jack R. Gust, R&D Chief Engineer, The Toro Company: "Emerging Energy Technology in the Turf Utility Vehicle Market"
Topic Info:
Turf Utility Vehicles make an excellent technology demonstration platform due to their wide variety of applications, ease of operation, public exposure, and relatively low cost of implementation. As promising emerging energy technologies such as advanced batteries, hybrids, and fuel cells become available, it is imperative to demonstrate their technical viability across a range of applications as a first step towards commercialization. Since these advanced energy alternatives are often expensive, developers cannot afford to meet performance requirements simply by installing oversized components, they must design closer to the edge. A clear understanding of the application's duty cycle is required to select the appropriate components.
This presentation will present results of hydrogen fuel cell and lithium battery demonstration projects conducted by Toro in cooperation with support from The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
